Life Tip #10 – Moving on down the road …

Leave the Young Things to the Young …

I know that many of you will balk at that statement.

I am young!

I am young at heart!

I am better now that I ever was!

What the heck do you mean by that!

Do you want to take it outside !!! Grrr !!

Relax.

What I mean by this is that Life is Long. There are so very many things to do and experience.

Don’t get caught up in what you used to do. Don’t look at memories or photos of places you’ve been or things you’ve done and miss them.

Don’t look back ~ that is not the way you are going.

Yes, it was awesome to __________ and to go to _________ and, and, and …

But you did that already.

Yes, I know. I totally understand wanting to be able to do the things that I did in my past that made me feel Vibrant, Exciting, Challenged and One-Kick-Ass Chick !

So, perhaps, the new things I am looking to do and/or experience are not so life-threatening, devil-may-care or physically demanding.

I realize as I get older that I am not indestructible. We change, our bodies change, our responsibilities and needs change.

I believe the key now is to take well-thought-out and measured risks. To aspire to try new things that challenge more than my fitness or bravado. To explore what excites me Now ~ at my current age, with my current experience, with my evolving bucket list.

Trying new things is still scary. It still grows the butterflies in my stomach and that is excellent!

The most fundamental differences at this point are that I have nothing to prove to anyone and I really don’t care if I look like an idiot trying something new or discover that I am really crappy at it.

That is actually so very Freeing!

I’m always looking for new Great Deeds in my Life. Recently axe throwing ~ coming up, glass blowing class.

Perhaps Aerial Gymnastics? Curling? Or, continuing to strive for peace, heath and happiness? All are very valid goals.

Life is a Never-Ending Challenge, a Joy and an Adventure!

I hear people, especially those “middle-aged” (50 – 85 by my calculations), bemoaning that they are no longer able to do what they used to enjoy. Focusing on great times in their lives from their pasts as a standard that they should still be upholding.

Why?

Never look at those past memories as the best time of your life. They were great … but that was then and here we are now.

Today is the Best Day of Your Life. Tomorrow and the next day and the next day after that will be better than the one before ~ if you so choose.

So Choose!
