(This was first posted on my Facebook Page but I wanted to share here.)
I have a Red Dress.
A stunning, sexy, elegant, dreamy Red Dress. Chiffon. Full length with no back and slits up the leg that even make my short legs look spectacular. Other than my wedding dress, the nicest piece of clothing I have ever owned.
I have had it for a few decades and have nowhere to wear it anymore.
How sad.
For those of you of my age or close to it, do you remember going to dress-up events where there was dining and live music and dancing? What has happened?
Perhaps it is the West Coast Lifestyle that we all love on so many levels. I am realizing that being casual and laid back, despite its advantages, may translate into Uninspired.
Now, I have worn this lovely creation privately, but there is nothing like getting all dressed up for an occasion and heading out looking your best knowing that you are going somewhere out of your ordinary life. An Evening Event! I can remember the butterflies in my stomach and the excitement! Male or female, it is intoxicating!
Put on a Frock! We are going out!
I was reminded of this creation in my closet by being invited to a Gala in the New Year. As soon as I saw the invite, I thought ‘what am I going to wear?’ and checked if it still fit – even with my sport socks on and no make up, it was doable. Unfortunately, there is a conflict and we cannot go.
I think the point of this post is Why the Hell Not? It seems that life is not presenting those types of events in today’s world (at least not in mine or anyone I know’s world – that said, when they did come up for me I was a petite blonde in my 20s ~ correlation?)
Does anyone else have awesome, flattering stuff in the back of your closet?
How can we fix this? I see a couple of options:
1. Take away the occasion – wear it around the house – look amazing doing laundry and try to explain to your spouse why you are not crazy. Single with a pet? Dance with them. Single without a pet? You don’t have to explain anything to anyone – go nuts.
2. Plan a formal event at my home and invite people ~ not quite the same when you are serving and cleaning and your husband is absent as he is cooking.
3. Hope that this post inspires someone else to host a formal party.
4. Hope that someone invites me to a formal party.
5. Put it back in my closet and strive to be able to fit it until I find somewhere to wear it.
I am going to hold #1 and #5 on the back burner, discount #2, hope for #3 and #4 and see how it goes.
